The KWPN approved stallion Montender (by Contender) was successful in all major championships with the German rider Marco Kutscher. He won two bronze medals at the Olympic Games in Athens (2004), was fifth in the World Cup Final in Milan (2005) and won two gold medals at the European Championships in San Patrignano (2005). In 2003 he was already crowned German Champion and Reserve Champion in 2005. His last appearance in the ring dates from 2009 with Henrik von Eckermann.
The sport had always priority, so Montender was limited used for breeding. However his first offspring from 2001 and 2002, is successful in the Grand Prix ring. For example: two-time winner of the Bundeschampionat Monte Bellini (Philip Weishaupt) and the 1.50m jumper Mya Mercedes (Stefan Engbers). Meanwhile, 16 sons are approved for several studbooks, including Backgammon (KWPN). Unfortunately, this stallion of De Watermolen and Stal Horn died this year too early. His place is now occupied by his father.
Montender is known as a healthy, long-lined dark brown stallion with a good and hard foundation, a very good character and a fantastic mentality. His mother Jesprit (Burggraaf x Le Mexico) was very successful at 1.30/1.35m level at age of six, when she first brought two foals. Grandmother Esprit brought also three international showjumpers. This all makes the pedigree of Montender very interesting.
